3 killed, 62 injured in Venezuela protests

Xinhua, April 21, 2017 Adjust font size:

Violent anti-government protests in Venezuela's capital and 14 other states have left three people dead and 62injured, the Public Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday.

The victims included Paola Andreina Ramirez Gomez, 23, who was apparently shot in the head in western Tachira state; a 17-year-old man killed in Caracas during a demonstration he was not taking part in; and Niumar Jose San Clemente Barrios, a member of the Bolivarian National Guard, who died of a gunshot in northern Miranda state.

In a televised press conference, Interior Minister Nestor Reverol said investigations showed Ramirez was killed by a militant member of the far-right Vente Venezuela party.

"It is evident this crime was deliberately planned as the suspect... altered the site of the incident, collecting 27 (spent) shells that officials later found on him," the minister said.

Officials provided video footage of the attack, explaining how it was carried out from a nearby rooftop.

So far, some 312 people have been arrested for acts of violence. Endi
