Ukraine's largest airport aims to double passenger traffic by 2023

The Boryspil International Airport, the largest airport in Ukraine, targets to double its passenger traffic by 2023, Pavel Ryabykyn, the chairman of Boryspil, said on Thursday.

"This year, the airport will serve 10 million passengers. We expect the traffic will double, with most of the passengers coming from Asia," Ryabykyn said during the Ukrainian Infrastructure Forum in Kiev.

To provide better services and attract more passengers, the authorities of Boryspil plan to invest about 224 million U.S. dollars within the next five years into the modernization of the airport's infrastructure, he said.

In particular, the money will go to upgrade the low-cost flights and construct a rail connection between the airport and the Ukrainian capital.

Last year, Boryspil has increased its passenger turnover by 18 percent to a record of 8.65 million people mainly due to attracting new transit passengers.

Located 20 km southeast of Kiev, Boryspil is the busiest airport in the country, covering about 67 percent of the passenger traffic in Ukraine. It provides service to 50 international and domestic airlines operating on about 100 routes. Endit
