UN chief appoints Russian diplomat as senior peacekeeping official

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday appointed Alexander Zuev from Russia as assistant secretary-general for peacekeeping affairs.
Zuev will succeed Dmitry Titov to take up the position of assistant secretary-general for Rule of Law and Security Institutions in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a daily briefing.
Zuev joined the United Nations in 1990 and has served with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Children's Fund and the United Nations Office for Project Services.
Also on Wednesday, the UN General Assembly confirms Achim Steiner of Germany as the new Administrator of UNDP for a term of four years to succeed Helen Clark from New Zealand.
Steiner, who is former head of UN Environment Program, said on his twitter that he feels "honored and humbled" to serve as next UNDP administrator. Endit
