French stocks edge up slightly

French shares rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.27 percent to close at 5,003.73 points.

Of the 40 selected large companies, 26 gained in the day.

Steel producer ArcelorMittal advanced 3.6 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Consulting giant Capgemini rose 3.57 percent. Banking firm Societe Generale gained 2.88 percent.

Vivendi, a French multinational mass media firm, lost 1.05 percent. Food company Sodexo dropped 0.98 percent. Another food-product corporation Danone edged down 0.8 percent. Endit
