An 8-year-old girl died on Tuesday of flu complications in a hospital at Patras Port in western Greece, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

The girl was infected about a month ago with the H1N1 flu virus, according to health authorities. It has not been clarified whether she was suffering from other chronic health problems and whether she was inoculated.

So far this year, 101 people have died of flu complications, according to the latest data from the Greek Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO), up from 80 fatalities reported in 2016.

The epidemiologists had urged people, in particular patients suffering from chronic health issues, to get vaccinated.
