Shandong Luneng beat Beijing Guoan 1-0 to top CSL standings

Xinhua, April 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

Shandong Luneng beat Beijing Guoan 1-0 on Saturday to maintain their top place of the 2017 Chinese Super League (CSL).

Italian striker Graziano Pellè could have been the hero for Shandong, but his penalty kick in the fifth minute went wide.

Wu Xinghan broke the deadlock for Shandong Luneng with a brilliant solo effort in the 37th minute when he fired a long shot from the left wing. The ball was deflected by teammate Jin Jingdao and Beijing's goalkeeper was unable to save it anymore.

In other fifth round matches, Tianjin Quanjian FC tied 1-1 with Shanghai SIPG. Wu Lei received a cross from Brazilian striker Hulk from inside the box and put it into the net in the 38th minute. Alexandre Pato equalized for the home team in the 58 minute, which was his first goal in the CSL.

Jiangsu Suning were still unable to embrace their first win this season by tying 1-1 with Henan Jianye. Henan's young striker Christian Bassogog scored the opener in the 13th minute from an error made by South Korean defender Hong Jeong-Ho, before Ramires saved Jiangsu with an equalizer in the 78th minute.

Changchun Yatai were defeated 3-2 by Shanghai Greenland. Fredy Guarin, Giovanni Moreno and Cao Yunding each contributed a goal for Shanghai, while Odion Ighalo pulled back two goals for the home team.

On Friday, Chongqing Lifan beat Guizhou Hengfeng 2-1. Endit
