Azerbaijan to appoint trade envoy to China

Xinhua, April 12, 2017 Adjust font size:

Azerbaijan plans to appoint trade representatives to China and the United Arab Emirates, the country's Deputy Economy Minister Sahil Babayev announced Wednesday, according to the state news agency Azertac.

The official made the announcement when addressing the Fourth International Caspian Energy Forum 2017 in Baku, adding that the plan follows a similar dispatch in Russia, which is one of the former Soviet republic's main trading partners.

According to Babayev, the trade envoys are tasked with three main missions: increasing the export of Azerbaijani products, attracting investors to Azerbaijan as well as protecting the business interests of Azerbaijan.

Bilateral trade between Beijing and Baku reached 770 million U.S. dollars in 2016, up 15 percent from 2015 and over 500 times the sum 25 years ago when the two countries established diplomatic relations, according to Wei Jinghua, China's ambassador to Azerbaijan, who cited statics from China's General Administration of Customs.
