Georgia to purchase anti-missile system for defense modernization

Xinhua, April 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

Georgia has made purchasing an anti-missile system the top priority of its defense modernization, Georgia's Defense Minister Levan Izoria said here Tuesday.

"We have determined five directions for the defense modernization, among which the purchase of an anti-missile system is the top priority," Izoria told reporters after presenting a report to the parliamentary defense committee.

Izoria said the defense ministry had finished 70 percent of the plans to modernize the country's defense capability, but the issue of equipment is still undecided.

Izoria also said the modernization of the air forces and navy were also important apart from the planned anti-missile system.

According to earlier local media reports, Izoria is mulling trips to France for talks with his French counterpart on the purchase of an anti-missile system. Endi
