Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.6 percent at 3,288.97 points.
The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.5 percent higher at 10,655.79 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.27 percent to close at 1,917.63 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as the yen's appreciation versus the U.S. dollar inhibited buying, with investors in a risk-off mood on geopolitical concerns involving the United States' recent military moves.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 50.01 points, or 0.27 percent, from Monday to close the day at 18,747.87.
On the main section on Tuesday trading volume came to 1,691.17 million shares, dropping from Monday's volume of 1,732.34 million.
The total turnover on the second trading day of the week was 1,863 billion yen (16.85 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 173.72 points, or 0.72 percent to 24,088.46 points on Tuesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,007.85 and 24,318.15. Turnover totaled 76.808 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.885 billion U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 16.36 points, or 0.29 percent, to a level of 5,627.93 on Tuesday.
Some 339,552 transaction were booked, involving 12 billion copies of share with total value of 7.3 trillion rupiah (about 549 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 1.59 points, or 0.10 percent to close at 1,582.78 points.

MANILA -- The Philippine stock market succumbed to profit takers on Tuesday.
The bellwether Philippine Stock Exchange index lost 0.22 percent or 16.51 points to 7,601.40, while the broader all-share index shed 0.19 percent or 8.69 points to 4,532.92.
Trading volume reached 1.46 billion shares worth 7.13 billion Philippine pesos (143.23 million U.S. dollars) with 87 stocks advancing, 118 declining, and 47 were unchanged.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Tuesday. Benchmark indices held on to its morning gains.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 29,788.35, 212.61 points or 0.7 percent up compared to its previous close at 29,575.74.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 6.7 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 3,174.75.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 90.63 points on Tuesday, up 0.2 points or 0.22 percent against the previous trading session.
A total of over 86.122 million shares worth some 988.324 billion Vietnamese dong (some 43.9 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 26.12 percent in volume and 43.5 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 731.33 points on Tuesday, up 1.46 points or 0.2 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 210.265 million shares worth 3.601 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (161.32 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 51.75 points to reach 1,044.71 points after closing.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Tuesday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) shed 9.47 points, or 0.44 percent, to settle at 2,123.85. Trading volume stood at 460.2 million shares worth 4 trillion won (3.5 billion U.S. dollars).
South Korea's currency finished at 1,145.8 won against the greenback, down 3.6 won from the previous close.

SYDNEY -- The Australian market has finished higher on Tuesday, with banking stocks and the energy sector lifting the index.
