Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark ShanghaiComposite Index down 0.52 percent at 3,269.39 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.62 percent lower at 10,603.28 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, fell 1.73 percent to close at 1,912.45 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 5.12 points, or 0.02 percent to 24,262.18 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,215.54 and 24,314.66. Turnover totaled 65.104 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 8.389 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 4.18 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 3,181.45.

A total of 1.98 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 943.3 million Singapore dollars (671.06 million U.S. dollars). Decliners outnumbered gainers 295 to 201.

MUMBAI -- The Indian stock market closed lower on Monday, reversing its trend from the morning session.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 29,575.74, 130.87 points or 0.44 percent down compared to its previous close at 29,706.61.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 90.43 points on Monday, up 0.29 points or 0.32 percent against the previous trading session.

A total of over 68.285 million shares worth some 688.780 billion Vietnamese dong (some 30.61 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, an increase of 44.7 percent in volume and 5.7 percent in value against the previous trading session.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved down 2.34 points, or 0.15 percent to close at 1,581.19 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as a comparatively weak yen against the U.S. dollar encouraged investors to snap up exporter-linked shares, with the softer tone of the Japanese currency also supporting the broader market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 133.25 points, or 0.71 percent, from Friday to close the day at 18,797.88.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Monday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 0.96 point, or 0.27 percent, to close at 355.68 points.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Monday up 1.36 percent compared to the previous trading day.
