5.4-magnitude quake hits central Philippines

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck northern Samar province in central Philippines on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The institute said in a report that the quake struck at 8:43 a.m. local time at a depth of 27 km northeast of Mapanas in Northern Samar province.

It said the quake was also felt in nearby provinces of Leyte, Sorsogon and Albay.

The institute and government disaster agencies have not received any reports of damage or casualties. Endit
