Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri warned Sunday that the ongoing clashes in South Lebanon's Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian camp harm the Palestinian cause and benefit Israel, the National News Agency (NNA) quoted him as saying.
"Only Israel benefits from the ongoing sedition... and on top of the events is Ain al-Hilweh clashes," Berri said.
Berri called upon Palestinian leaders and refugees to "abort the attempts" of dragging Palestinians into a conflict between each other.
The Speaker also urged all parties "to ensure victory for Palestine through helping the Palestinians strengthen their unity."
The Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Sidon has witnessed for the third consecutive day fighting between a joint Palestinian force tasked with preserving security in the camp, and Bilal Badr's Islamist extremist group that opposed the deployment of the joint force.
Fatah, a key member of the joint Palestinian force has vowed to keep fighting until Bilal Badr, a fugitive wanted by Lebanese authorities, and his group surrender.
The clashes left five killed and more than 32 injured while dozens of refugees have left their homes in the camp and moved towards other safer areas in Sidon.
Ain al-Hilweh is Lebanon's largest refugee camp and has been notorious for harboring fugitives and for on and off fighting between Fatah and extremist groups.
According to a long standing agreement, the camp is off-limits of the Lebanese security forces. Endit
