Spain's Inditex opens its biggest Zara store in Madrid

The world's leading retailer, Inditex, opened its biggest-ever Zara store here on Friday in the financial center of the city.

Measuring more than 6,000 square meters, the store is spread out over four floors and includes the latest technology and innovations in its design.

The company is aiming to improve sustainability and energy efficiency in its stores in line with its goal of having 100-percent sustainable stores by 2020.

The new Madrid store consumes 20 percent less electricity and 45 percent less water using 100 percent renewable energies. The company also used local recycled materials to build some parts of the store, it has LED lights, and clients can pay with their mobile phones.

Inditex operates eight brands, and has 7,292 stores in 93 different markets and net sales rose by 12 percent to 23.3 billion euros (24.68 billion U.S. dollars) in 2016 from 2015. (1 euro = 1.06 U.S. dollars) Endit
