JSE closes weaker on Friday

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed lower on Friday after nation-wide protest against President Jacob Zuma.

The local event and the attack of Syria by the U.S. missile pulled down the local bourse.

The all share was down 0.12 percent at 52,853.36 points and the blue-chip top 40 lost 0.18 percent.

The South Africa rand weakened on Friday to R13.81 to the U.S. dollar at the close of trading.

The gold index was 1.08 percent higher as the price of the metal spot price had risen 0.94 percent to 1,264.89 dollars an ounce.

Banks regained 0.39 percent and Financials was up 0.22 percent. Resources dropped 0.72 percent.

Gold Fields rose 6.3 percent to R53 and Sibanye gained 1.64 percent to R34.

Among banks, Barclays Africa was up 2.29 percent to R138.91 and Standard Bank gained 0.53 percent to R137.2. Endit
