Bahrain parliament proposes jail term, fine for cross dressing

Xinhua, April 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

Bahrain's parliament will vote next week to penalize cross dressing with jail term and fine, Al Ayam local online news reported on Friday.

The penalty will be included in the penal code law and it will be up to one year in jail or/and no more than 1,000 Bahraini dinars (2,652 U.S. dollars) fine.

While the concerned committee was reviewing the proposal, various government officials rejected it, describing it as unclear and lack clarification on certain acts that should be penalized.

The public have been criticizing parliamentarians for focusing on unimportant matters rather than serious issues like the delayed state budget of 2016 that the government is yet to refer to the parliament for approval. The delay suspended many government projects and promotion of many public employees. Endit
