Venezuela, Bolivia slam OAS for causing rifts

Venezuela and Bolivia on Wednesday separately criticized the Organization of American States (OAS) for causing rifts in Latin America.
Far from promoting regional integration and unity, the hemispheric bloc is sowing division among the 34 member states, Bolivia's President Evo Morales said.
"We don't need organizations that foment hate and division in latin America. (The) OAS as an institution servile to the U.S. is destined for extinction," Morales posted to Twitter.
The criticism comes on the heels of an OAS special session on Monday, spearheaded by OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro, to declare Venezuela in violation of democratic norms, and pave the way for military intervention. Some 17 bloc members voted in favor of the proposal.
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez on Wednesday called for Almagro's resignation.
"Due to the path the tattered organization has taken, on the road to its disintegration, and for ethical reasons, Mr. Almagro must resign," Padrino said via Twitter. Endit
