The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday.

--Zambian President Edgar Lungu has signed a statutory instrument to bar transiting of a popular timber species, Mukula, in the country from neighboring countries.

Minister of Lands Jean Kapata said the statutory instrument was signed last Friday as part of efforts to curb the illegal harvesting of the timber species. (Zambia Daily Mail)

--Health authorities in Zambia's Copperbelt Province have introduced a new drug to combat malaria following rampant incidences of malaria outbreaks.

Kitwe Central Hospital public relations officer Phoebe Chilufya said the new drug, Artensanate, was an addition to other malaria drugs being administered, adding that people that had been administered with the new drug were responding well. (Times of Zambia)

--Authorities in western Zambia have assured people who will travel to the province for a popular traditional ceremony this Saturday of adequate security and have warned some disgruntled groupings planning to disrupt the event of stern action.

Western Province Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba said security has been tightened ahead of the Kuomboka ceremony after reports that some groupings were planning to disrupt the event. (Daily Nation)

--Promoters of Zambia's female boxer Catherine Phiri have described her loss of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Bantamweight gold title to Mexico's Marian Juarez as painful.

Chris Malunga, the boxer's manager, said the boxer lost the title clearly on points during the fight in the early hours of Sunday, April 2, but promised that she will bounce back. (The Mast) Endit
