Egypt uncovers remains of ancient pyramid in Giza

Egyptian antiquities ministry announced Monday that it uncovered the remains of a 13th dynasty pyramid in Giza Governorate's Dahshur district.

In a press statement, the ministry said the Egyptian excavation mission working in the area located to the north of King Senefru's bent pyramid in Dahshur necropolis uncovered the remains.

According to the statement, all the discovered parts of the pyramid are in a very good conservation condition and further excavation is to take place to reveal more parts.

The uncovered remains of the pyramid represent a part of its inner structure which is composed of a corridor leading to the inner side of the pyramid and a hall which leads to a southern ramp and a room to the western end, the statement explained.

An 15-cm-by-17-cm alabaster block engraved with ten vertical hieroglyphic lines was also uncovered as well as a granite lintel and stony blocks showing the interior design of the pyramid, it added.

Egypt, one of the most ancient civilizations, has been working hard to preserve its archaeological heritage and discover the secrets of the archaeology of Pharaohs and other ancient civilizations across the country in a bid to revive the country's ailing tourism sector, which has been suffering an acute recession over the past few years due to political turmoil and relevant security issues.
