Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.38 percent, at 3,222.51 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.78 percent higher at 10,428.72 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.72 percent to close at 1,907.34 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 189.5 points, or 0.78 percent, to 24,111.59 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,105.38 and 24,329.98. Turnover totaled 73.66 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.48 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 1.87 points, or 0.06 percent, to close at 3,175.11.

A total of 2.6 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.63 billion Singapore dollars (1.17 billion U.S. dollars). Decliners outnumbered gainers 255 to 226.

The STI index lost 11.33 points, or 0.36 percent, to close at 3,173.24 on Thursday.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei index falling to a seven-week low, as some investors opted to adjust their position on the last day of fiscal year 2016.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 153.96 points, or 0.81 percent, from Thursday to end the day at 18,909.26, marking its lowest close since Feb. 9.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 14.99 points, or 0.98 percent, to finish at 1,512.60.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved down 4.77 points, or 0.30 percent to close at 1,575.11 points.

Some 9.07 billion shares worth 38.03 billion baht (about 1.11 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,740.09 down 9.16 points or 0.53 percent, and the Emas was at 12,361.69 down 50.93 points or 0.41 percent.

There were 431 gainers, 466 losers and 381 counters traded unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 90.82 points on Friday, down 0.3 points or 0.33 percent against the previous trading session.

A total of over 43.137 million shares worth some 510.480 billion Vietnamese dong (some 22.69 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday, a decrease of 6.7 percent in volume and 10.2 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 722.31 points on Friday, down 1.55 points, or 0.21 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 213.141 million shares worth 3.784 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (169.89 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 117 stocks went up, 142 stocks fell down, while 46 stocks remained unchanged.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 4.41 points, or 0.20 percent, to settle at 2,160.23. Trading volume stood at 430.1 million shares worth 4.28 trillion won (3.82 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has finished lower on Friday, as poor performances in the banking and property sectors drove modest losses for the ASX200 index.

At the market close, the S&P/ASX200 index dropped 31.3 points, or 0.53 percent, to 5,864.9 points, while the broader All Ordinaries was also down 28 points, or 0.47 percent percent, to finish on 5,903.8 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 2.25 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 360.36.

A total of 2,541 shares worth 11.42 million riel (2,853 U.S. dollars) were traded.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Friday up 3.03 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 32.06 points to reach 1,088.93 points after closing. Endit
