Chinese stocks opened lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.19 percent to open at 3,235.14 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component index opened 0.15 percent lower at 10,505.39 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was down 0.24 percent to open at 1,924.51 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 90.96 points, or 0.37 percent, to 24,301.09 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,250.40 and 24,431.12. Turnover totaled 73.13 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.41 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as a weak lead from Wall Street overnight and concerns about U.S. business polices weighed on sentiment and saw investors lock away gains ahead of the end of the fiscal year.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 154.26 points, or 0.8 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 19,063.22.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 11.33 points, or 0.36 percent, to close at 3,173.24.

A total of 3.15 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.15 billion Singapore dollars (825.63 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers 233 to 230.

MUMBAI -- Indian market closed higher Thursday, backed by bank and industry shares.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 29,647.42, 115.99 points or 0.4 percent up compared to its previous close at 29,531.43.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Thursday moved up 4.91 points or 0.31 percent to close at 1,579.88 points.

Some 9.29 billion shares worth 51.77 billion baht (about 1.50 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Thursday down 4.50 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 49.75 points to reach 1,056.87 points after closing.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 2.42 points, or 0.68 percent, to close at 358.11.

A total of 8,260 shares worth 23.51 million riel (5,871 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SYDNEY -- The Australian market finished higher on Thursday, continuing its strong performance in recent days.

At the close of trade, the S&P/ASX 200 was up 22.70 points or 0.39 percent at 5,896.20, while the broader All Ordinaries index lifted 21.10 points or 0.36 percent at 5,931.80.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 723.86 points on Thursday, up 3.39 points, or 0.47 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

A total of 82.673 million shares worth 1.809 trillion VND (81.28 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 91.12 points on Thursday, up 0.46 points or 0.05 percent against the previous trading session.

Prices of 107 stocks went up; 97 stocks fell down, while 71 stocks remained unchanged.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,749.25, down 1.16 points or 0.07 percent, and the Emas was at 12,412.62, down 1.38 points or 0.01 percent.
