The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Thursday.

-- Parliament's spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo, said on Wednesday they will submit a report to the Speaker of the National Assembly to determine appropriate course of action following death threats against a member of the House.

Mothapo described the death threats that chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration, Makhosi Khoza, is receiving as extremely disturbing. (South African Broadcasting Corporation).

-- Ten police officers and eight home affairs officials were arrested in the Free State on Wednesday morning for allegedly extorting money from foreigners, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said.

This comes as SAPS revealed that 706 police officials had been arrested for criminal activity in the 2016/17 financial year, compared to 725 in 2015/16. (News24)
