The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, wrapped up a three-day inspection in north China's Tianjin Municipality on the enforcement of the Product Quality Law on Wednesday.
The inspection team heard reports on law enforcement made by local authorities and visited manufacturers, distributors and inspection and testing institutions, in addition to holding seminars with deputies to people's congresses, experts, representatives of inspecting and verifying services, and consumers.
Shen Yueyue, who is vice chair of the Standing Committee of the NPC, said Tianjin should improve the quality of products to boost supply-side structural reform, better meet the demand of consumers and safeguard the order of the socialist market economy.
Shen, who headed the team, stressed that the inspection should examine the implementation of basic provisions and important rules, solve outstanding problems and pave the way for the revisions to the law.
According to the national legislature, the inspection of product quality law compliance will continue until the end of April. Inspection teams will also be sent to seven other provincial-level regions including Shanghai and Guangdong.
The Standing Committee of the NPC, a permanent body of the NPC, provides oversight and has been active in inspecting whether governments comply with the law. In 2016, it conducted six inspections, covering about 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Enditem
