"Taiwan independence" can never be allowed: Chinese mainland spokesman

Xinhua, March 29, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Chinese mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, and "Taiwan independence" can never be allowed, according to a Chinese mainland spokesman on Wednesday.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference.

"We will continue to uphold the 1992 Consensus, which reflects the 'One China' principle," said Ma.

"We will strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest efforts and utmost sincerity, but will never allow any 'Taiwan independence' supporters to separate Taiwan from China under any name or in any form," he added.

When asked about Taiwan's activities with international organizations, Ma said arrangements must be made through consultations between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan under the "One China" principle. Endi
