Senior leader calls for targeted poverty relief supervision

Xinhua, March 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

Top Chinese political advisor Yu Zhengsheng Monday called for targeted and effective democratic supervision of China's poverty alleviation efforts.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks during a symposium in Beijing.

"Democratic supervision has been a crucial part of the efforts of the CPPCC and non-communist parties to implement the decision of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, especially in the country's key stage of fighting poverty," Yu said.

Yu urged political advisors to improve their understanding of national realities and policies on poverty relief, and identify key problems and offer effective solutions.

"Political advisory bodies should strengthen communication with relevant authorities to solve problems, while local Party committees and governments should be open to suggestions from the CPPCC and criticism from non-communist parties," Yu said.
