Jimmer Fredette's 50 points seemed useless in Shanghai's 95-102 overtime home defeat to Shenzhen and the guests beat Shanghai 3-2 in the best-of-five 2016-2017 CBA playoff quarterfinals here on Sunday.
Shanghai started the match with a 10-2 run before Shenzhen surpassed by 24-22 at the end of the first quarter. The guests kept an advantage of around ten points till the second half.
Cai Liang and Fredette shone behind the arc to help Shanghai lead 89-85 with one minute left. Meng Duo of Shenzhen tied the match again 89-89 with a layup and two free throws. Both teams wasted their chances before they had to play the overtime.
In OT, Fredette contributed all six points of Shanghai to take an early lead 95-93. But Maciej Lampe, who replaced Jeremy Pargo in the overtime, proved how brilliant the substitution was by dominating the rest of the match. He and Gu Quan combined for the nine straight points to help Shenzhen beat Shanghai 102-95. They also booked a berth in the semifinals with the 3-2 series victory.
"We are very happy to win the match, great performance under the pressure, I hope we can maintain this momentum in the semifinals." said Shenzhen's head coach Wang Jianjun.
Jimmer Fredette had a match-high 50 points and ten rebounds, Zhang Zhaoxu added 14 points and nine rebounds. Lampe contributed 28 points and 15 rebounds for Shenzhen, Meng Duo scored 21 points.
Starting next Friday, Shenzhen will meet Guangdong while Xinjiang will play against Liaoning in semifinals. Endit
