Iran seeks boost of ties with France: FM

France is a major political and trade partner of Iran and Tehran seeks to boost ties with Paris in diverse areas, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said here on Saturday.

"We regard France as an important economic and political partner" and Iran is determined to enhance relations with France in all fields, Zarif said in a meeting with the visiting French Minister of Finance Michel Sapin in the capital Tehran, Tasnim news agency reported.

He also expressed hope for broader joint investment in the auto industry taking advantage of the Iranian market's potentials and the workforce available in the country.

For his part, Sapin expressed his country's readiness for closer economic and political ties with Iran.

Following the international Iranian nuclear deal, also known the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which came into force in January 2016, Iran signed a major deal to buy 118 commercial planes from France's Airbus and also signed contract with France automaker, PSA Peugeot Citroen, to jointly produce cars in the Islamic republic.
