Afghan forces kill 5 militants, recapture several villages in western Badghis province

Afghan security forces after killing five Taliban rebels and destroying their hideouts regained the control of several villages in Kandalan valley outside provincial capital Qala-e-Naw on Thursday, provincial police chief Abdul Rauf Taj said Friday.

According to the official, the security forces have seized huge quantity of arms and ammunitions, forcing militants to flee the area.

The police chief also added that the security forces would soon launch operations against militants elsewhere in Badghis province to ensure lasting peace there.

Taliban militants haven't commented on the situation.

Meanwhile, army soldier Mohammad Ismael said that the Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint of the national army in Joi Khawja area in Balamurghab district. Enditem
