Iran condemns Saudi-Malaysia joint statement

Xinhua, March 2, 2017 Adjust font size:

Iran's foreign ministry on Thursday slammed a recent anti-Iran joint statement by Malaysia and Saudi Arabia that accused Iran of interference in other countries' internal affairs, Tasnim news agency reported.

The statement is a new episode in Saudi Arabia's failed attempts to falsify realities, and the Saudi-perpetrated accusations are totally imaginary, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said, referring to a Wednesday statement by Malaysia and Saudi Arabia at the conclusion of the Saudi king's visit to Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

The statement reportedly expressed concerns about what they called "Iranian interference in the internal affairs of countries in the region."

Iran is committed to the principles of good-neighborliness, mutual respect, and non-interference in the internal affairs of others, Qasemi said, adding that Iran, as an influential and peace-loving nation, cooperates with all countries to promote peace and stability and fight against terrorism.

The Iranian spokesman advised Malaysian government to avoid involvement in such moves aimed at undermining Muslim unity. Endit
