Singapore's manufacturing activity expands for 6th straight month in February

Xinhua, March 2, 2017 Adjust font size:

Singapore's manufacturing activity expanded for a sixth straight month in February, the latest data released by the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (SIPMM) showed Thursday.

The reading of Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in February came in at 50.9, a 0.1 drop from January, said SIPMM.

A reading below 50 indicates contraction in the manufacturing economy, while a reading above 50 indicates general expansion.

Manufacturing makes up about one fifth of Singapore's economy. SIPMM said the reading was due to a slower rate of expansion in factory output, new orders, new exports and lower imports.

PMI for the electronics sector also registered a slower expansion at 51.4, falling 0.4 points from the previous month. Endit
