AfDB, EAC to discuss future cooperation

Xinhua, March 2, 2017 Adjust font size:

A high-level delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) will visit the East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arusha on Friday to discuss possible cooperation, the EAC secretariat said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement said the EAC Secretary General Liberat Mfumukeko would host at least ten AfDB executive directors and their discussions were expected to center on AfDB-EAC collaboration since the signing of a cooperation agreement in 1998.

Discussions will center on future collaborations in existing portfolios and possible expansion of scope of cooperation in other sectors besides infrastructure and energy projects, said the statement.

"Performance of regional projects supported by the AfDB will also be reviewed," said the statement.

The key projects included the 243-km Arusha-Namanga-Athi River projects, which has completed construction, and the Arusha-Holili/Taveta-Voi road, part of which was still under construction.

AfDB is also expected to finance the construction of Malindi-Lungalunga/Horohoro-Tanga-Bagamoyo road whose studies and designs have been completed. Endit
