Vietnam is implementing citizen protection measures for a Vietnamese suspect arrested in Malaysia in relation of the killing of a Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) man, said Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consular Department on Thursday.

On the same day, the department's representatives met with the family of Doan Thi Huong, a Vietnamese citizen, arrested in Malaysia.

The meeting aimed at explaining proceedings of the case and instructing Huong's family about legal assistance following the regulations of Malaysia laws and international convention, said a statement by the department.

Earlier, the department has informed Huong's family about the recent meeting with Huong in Malaysia and her health condition.

On Wednesday, two female suspects, including Huong and the other from Indonesia were charged with the murder of the DPRK man, said a local court in Malaysia.

According to the statement, representatives of the Vietnamese embassy in Malaysia were present at the court to protect legitimate rights of Huong.

The Vietnamese embassy in Malaysia is continuing to implement citizen protection measures within its scope to ensure the proceedings are fair, objective and non-discriminatory as well as ensure legitimate rights of the Vietnamese citizen, including assistance to seek a suitable lawyer for Huong, in accordance with legal regulations of Malaysia, said the statement.
