France confirms national kidnapped in DR Congo

A French national was one of the workers abducted in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), the French Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"We confirm that a French national is among the people abducted on March 1 in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. At this stage, we don't have information on the perpetrators," a ministry's spokesman said.

"We are mobilized and are in contact with the Congolese (DR Congo)authorities to shed as much light as possible on what happened, and in order to free our compatriot," he added during a e-press briefing.

Earlier on Thursday, Canadian gold dealer Banro Corporation said militiamen had kidnapped five workers at its Namoya gold mine in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Endit
