Sri Lanka arrests 13 Indian fishermen for poaching

The Sri Lankan Navy said Thursday it had arrested 13 Indian fishermen for poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

The Navy also seized two fishing trawlers used by the Indians in the northern seas, south of Sri Lanka's Delft Island.

At a ministerial meeting in January, Sri Lanka urged India to end bottom trawling in order to resolve a long-standing fishing dispute.

The Indian side assured that bottom trawling would be phased out within a practicable timeframe. Endit
