10 Cuban athletes get tickets to World Athletics Championships in London

Ten Cuban athletes have qualified so far to participate at the World Athletics Championships, to be held from August 4-13 in London, the national federation said on Wednesday.

110-meter hurdlers Yordan O'Farrill and Roger Valentin are the latest members of the list after clocking 13.42 and 13.43 seconds respectively in a trial at the Pan American Stadium in Havana.

In addition, triple jumpers Lazaro Martinez (17.07 meters), Christian Napoles (16.98) and Andy Diaz (16.84), as well as discus thrower Yaime Perez (63.07 meters), are included in the crew after scoring the minimum marks.

Decathlonist Leonel Suarez (8460 points), heptalonist Yorgelis Rodriguez (6481), and marathon runner Richer Perez (2:18:05 hours) secured their tickets during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016, said the source.

Marathon runner Dailin Belmonte won her qualification at a race in Milan in April 2016, with a time of 2:42:44.

According to the federation, the listing could increase with first level figures during the upcoming international competitions in the next months.
