Ghana gov't urged to tackle ailing economy

Leading members of two political parties underscored here Wednesday the need for the new government to fix the ailing economy ahead of the presentation of the country's 2017 budget on Thursday.

National Chairman of the People's National Convention, Bernard Mornah, said he expected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to implement some of the major policies it promised during its 2016 election campaign.

"We will be monitoring to hear how some of the profound proclamations made by Nana Akufo-Addo in his State of the Nation Address will be implemented," Mornah said.

Communications Director of the Convention People's Party, Issifu Kadiri Abdul Rauf, said the NPP received massive endorsement from the teeming unemployed youth across the country and expected the government to outline major programs of job creation.

"Clear path job opportunities should be created for the youth. That is what we are expecting tomorrow," Rauf said.

Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to present the fiscal policy of the government on Thursday which is expected to contain policies that will strengthen the depreciating cedi, create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth, and ease challenges on private businesses in the country. Endit
