At least one person was killed and two others injured as a roadside bomb struck a police vehicle in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province on Tuesday, a police official Abdul Sattar Norzai said.
"A mine planted by militants struck a police vehicle on a road in Nahr-e-Saraj district at around 11:00 a.m. local time killing one person and injuring two others," Norzai told Xinhua.
Without giving more details, the official added that investigation is underway.
Meantime, another official on condition of anonymity said a police convoy was taking some prisoners to Kandahar province, but on the way a roadside bomb organized by militants struck a vehicle killing two prisoners and injuring three police personnel.
The poppy growing and militancy plagued Helmand province, with Lashkar Gah as its capital 555 km south of Kabul, has been the scene of bloody fighting between government forces and Taliban militants over the past few years. Endit
