Mozambican parliament opened its session on Monday in Maputo with parliamentary groups of both Frelimo and Renamo calling for a definitive and effective peace agreement in the country.

"The indicators that we registered in the last few months, demonstrate political will for a definitive and effective peace, they are a clear example that it is possible for Mozambicans to reach an effective and long lasting peace through dialogue," said Veronica Macamo, spokesperson of the parliament.

Macamo saluted Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi for his efforts together with Afonso Dlhakama, leader of main opposition party Renamo, for the truce that allowed Mozambicans to celebrate the festive season in a tranquil environment.

"We appeal all Mozambicans, political parties, civil society organizations, church leaders so that in a diversity environment all can contribute to the restoring of peace in a reconciliation spirit of tolerance and national unity," said Margarida Talapa, head of ruling party Frelimo parliamentary group.

"There is a need to provide insurance for peace and political stability to Mozambican families, national and international companies. We need to boost our economy, conquer our credibility internally and externally," said Ivone Soares, head of Renamo parliamentary group. Endit
