Two al-Qaida members killed in S. Afghan airstrike

Xinhua, February 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

Two members of al-Qaida network were killed following an airstrike in Afghanistan's southern Zabul province, according to a military statement on Monday.

The airstrike was carried out in Arghandab district on Sunday and among the killed was a group leader of the terror group, the command of Afghan Special Forces said in the statement posted on its official Facebook page.

No civilian was hurt following the strike in the province, 340 km south of Afghanistan's capital of Kabul, the statement added.

The elimination of the targeted militants would further improve the public security in Zabul and neighboring provinces.

"Afghan Special Operation Forces spare no effort to provide security for the country," the statement asserted.

The Taliban, al-Qaida, and Islamic State (IS) groups have been active in parts of Zabul province over the past several years.

The group has yet to make comments. Enditem
