Miss Global 2016 winners visit Cambodia to promote environment, tourism

Xinhua, February 26, 2017 Adjust font size:

A group of the Miss Global 2016 winners is visiting Cambodia to promote environmental protection and tourism, a Cambodian senior official said on Sunday.

The group includes Miss Ecuador Angela Bonilla, the winner of the Miss Global 2016, along with her four runners-up and a Cambodian-American Miss Mealyann Nita Saing, arrived here on Saturday for a 12-day tour, said Environment Ministry Undersecretary of State Eang Sophalleth.

"Their visit is to raise awareness of rubbish and solid waste management and to promote Cambodia's tourism," he said during a press briefing here. "They will give presentations about rubbish and solid waste management to Cambodian students at schools and universities."

The beauty queens would also hold public forums in coastal Preah Sihanouk province and cultural Siem Reap province to show the impact of rubbish and solid waste on human health, he added.

In Cambodia, it is common to see people drop rubbish or plastic bag waste on the ground immediately after use, or leave litter by the side of the road for rubbish collectors.

Speaking at the press briefing, Angela Bonilla said that their visit was to help Cambodia preserve its beautiful environment and to promote Cambodia's tourism to the world.

"We will work with the Environment Ministry to promote awareness of environment protection and to send a message to the world about Cambodia, the peaceful and beautiful country," said the 24-year-old lady. Enditem
