French jobless total almost unchanged in Jan.

The jobless total in France inched up last month, figures released by the Labor Ministry showed on Friday.

In January, 800 people without work were recorded in mainland France, making the country's total number of jobseekers at 3.467 million, which was down 2.5 percent year on year from a year ago.

With the overseas departments taken into account, the ministry data showed also a stable jobless claims at 3.724 million.

"After good results of job creation... we note that the trend in the number of jobseekers remains favorable, especially for young people and for jobseekers of long duration," Labor Minister Myriam El Khomri said.

The unemployment rate in France stood at 9.7 percent at the end of 2016. Endit
