China takes second biathlon silver at Asiad

Zhang Yan took China's second biathlon silver after finishing second in the women's 10km pursuit at the Asian Winter Games here on Friday.

Zhang, who also won the first silver for China on Thursday, missed three targets before grabbing the silver in a time of 36:20.6, while Kazakhstan's Vishnevskaya Galina took the gold in 35:03.1.

"I missed three targets today, which is not good. Compare with yesterday, I think I did better in speeding, but the Kazakhstan girl is still too fast for me to catch up," said Zhang.

Ussanova Darya of Kazakhstan took the bronze in 36:42.4, while Chinese girl Tang Jialin placed fourth in 37:23.8.

Early on, Japanese Mikito Tachizaki claimed the men's 12.5km pursuit gold in 38:47.2. Kazakhstan's Yan Savitskiy picked the silver in 38:53.0, and South Korean Kim Yong-gyu took the bronze in 39:58.7.

Wang Wenqiang, eighth out of 14 finishers, was the best Chinese in the race.

Japan has thus raised their gold tally to 15, just one over South Korea who placed second on the medal table thanks to strong performances in speed skating and short track.

China was in third place with six golds so far, with a dream to finish second beyond its reach.

Kazakhstan, the overall winner at the last edition of the games, hosted by Almaty in 2011, was fourth with five golds. Endit
