The UN Security Council adopted a resolution Thursday to renew Yemen sanction measures until Feb. 26, 2018, after determining that "the situation in Yemen continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security."

In a resolution unanimously adopted here, the council renewed assets freeze and travel ban measures against individuals and organizations undermining the peaceful transition process in Yemen, which was imposed by resolution 2140 in 2014. (UN-Yemen)

LISBON -- Dozens of people protested outside the Portuguese parliament on Thursday over plans for oil and gas prospecting in Aljezur, around 250 km south of the capital Lisbon.

The protest was organised by Algarve Surf and Marine Activities (ASMAA), which has presented legal action against GALP/ENI and is concerned with the environmental impact of the drilling as well as effects on tourism in the region. (Portugal-Protest)

PARIS -- During an unauthorized protest organized by school students on Thursday to denounce police mistreatment, violent clashes erupted at Nation Square in east Paris where riot police fired tear gas to disperse a crowd of youth who hurled projectiles and vandalized property.

Between 800 and 1,000 school students took part in the rally to express solidarity with Theo, a 22-year-old black man who had allegedly been a victim of police violence and rape.

In the last street protest against police violence, youth blocked access to 12 schools in Paris after they piled up rubbish bins at the entrance gates. (France-Protests-Police Violence)

TUNIS -- The Tunisian army has scheduled a series of joint military exercises in 2017, with the collaboration of some European countries and the United States, Belhassen Oueslati, spokesman of Tunisian Defense Ministry, said on Thursday.

The spokesman confirmed that these military exercises will cover separate periods in 2017 and different regions of the country, while some of them will be held abroad. (Tunisia-Military Exercise) Endi
