Japan pocketed both golds of the women's 5km classical and the men's 10km classical cross-country skiing at the Winter Asiad here on Thursday.

In the women's event, 29-year-old skier Yuki Kobayashi crossed the finish line at Shirahatayama Open Stadium in 14 minutes and 56.1 seconds.

Yelena Kolomina took the silver in 15:02.8. The athlete from Kazakhstan also won a silver and a bronze in the 1.4km individual sprint classical and the 10km free events, respectively, earlier at the Games.

China's Li Hongxue took the bronze in 15:18.6. She took the sixth place in the women's 10km free on Tuesday.

"I'm satisfied with my performance today. I have been telling myself to hold on and not to slack. I hope I can also deliver my best performance tomorrow in the women's relay," Li said.

In the men's event, Akira Lenting from Japan claimed the title in 25:15.6.

The silver went to Kim Magnus of South Korea and the bronze went to Kohei Shimizu of Japan. China's Wang Qiang took the 10th place.

Mikko Olavi Virtanen, head coach of the Chinese cross-country skiing team, said after the events that he is happy with the women's results. "A surprising medal for Li Hongxue," he said.

"For men, we have a little problem with the skis. We took the wrong kind of skis... It was our mistake. Otherwise a very good day," he added. Endit
