3 killed, 4 injured in Morocco house collapse

Xinhua, February 23, 2017 Adjust font size:

Three family members were killed and four others injured Tuesday night after the partial collapse of their house in the city of Marrakech.

A 46-year-old woman was killed on the spot, while two children aged 4 and 13 years died of their injuries at Marrakech's Mohammed VI University Hospital, medias24.com said citing medical source.

The same source noted that the collapse occurred at Sidi Youssef Benali neighbourhood in the old city of Marrakech late on Tuesday.

Some 1,600 houses in the medina, or old city, of Marrakesh are at risk of collapse because of aging and shoddy construction materials or owners adding floors without permission.

Building collapses are common also in other old cities in Morocco, including Fez and Casablanca. Endit
