Turkish army permits female soldiers to wear headscarf

The Turkish military announced on Wednesday that the headscarf ban for female soldiers has been removed, local Hurriyet reported.
According to the new uniform regulation of the Defense Ministry, female officers, non-commissioned officers and cadets in the army, navy and air force commands of the Turkish Armed Forces are allowed to wear headscarves matching the color of their uniforms under their caps or berets.
The move will come into force after being published in the Official Gazette, Hurriyet said.
In 2013, the ruling Justice and Development Party lifted a ban on headscarves in Turkey's civil service.
In Aug. 2016, Turkish Interior Ministry issued an amendment enabling women police officers to cover their heads with a headscarf under their caps or berets provided it is the same color as the uniforms and without patterns. Endit
