The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Wednesday:

-- The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) has condemned a planned march against immigrants and the recent outbreak of xenophobic violence in certain parts of the country.

The march is planned for February 24, however, it is not clear who has planned it, the institute said on Tuesday. (News24)

-- Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will deliver his annual Budget Speech in parliament on Wednesday as he battles to revive the economy and head off loyalists of the president who seek to oust him.

Gordhan, a popular figure in South Africa and among international investors, is widely seen as being at loggerheads with President Jacob Zuma, who has shrugged off a series of recent corruption scandals. (Fin24)
