A court in Denmark ruled on Wednesday to extend the detention of Chung Yoo-ra, the daughter of a longtime confidante of impeached South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
A court in Aalborg ordered that Chung, wanted by South Korea on corruption charges, shall be detained for another four weeks pending extradition, local media reported.
The proceedings for Chung's extradition started on Jan. 6 after the Danish authorities received an official request from Seoul.
According to the Ritzau news agency, the Danish authorities have not finished the procedure, and prosecutor David Hvelplund asked for an additional four weeks of detention.
Chung was arrested in Denmark on Jan. 1 at the request of Interpol. She is alleged to have received illegal favors when entering a prestigious South Korean university. She is also accused of being behind comprehensive economic crimes in collusion with her mother, Choi Soon-sil.
The 21-year-old dressage rider has denied all the charges against her.
Her mother has been charged with using her friendship with Park to extort funds from large businesses and meddling in state affairs. Endi
