Two exhibitions of ancient Greek, Chinese science to run in parallel

The exchange of two exhibitions of ancient Greek and Chinese science and technology will run in parallel in autumn 2017 to spring 2018 in the Museum Herakleidon in Athens and the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) of Beijing, officials said here on Tuesday.
During a press briefing at the premises of the Herakleidon museum near the Acropolis, the agreement of collaboration between the two museums to organize the two exhibitions in the context of celebrations for the Year of Greek-Chinese Friendship in 2017 was presented.
The initiative will bring for first time in Athens some remarkable technological achievements of the ancient Chinese civilization and for first time in Beijing the most representative of the ancient Greek technological accomplishments, organizers said.
"It is a unique opportunity for both our nations to learn each other's achievements," Paul Fyros, founder of the Herakleidon museum said.
Through the showcasing of the cultural heritage of the two ancient civilizations the two countries and people can get closer today to the benefit of the entire world, speakers noted on Tuesday.
Beginning in September 2017 and continuing through January 2018, the Museum Herakleidon will host in its two buildings the exhibition of the CSTM "Ancient Chinese Science and Technology".
Through models and demonstrations visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with pioneering inventions covering a broad scientific spectrum from astronomy, mechanical engineering and seismography to papermaking, printing and weaving techniques.
Beginning in October 2017 and running through March 2018, the CSTM in Beijing, will host the exhibition "EUREKA. Science, Art and Technology of the Ancient Greeks", organized by the Museum Herakleidon in collaboration with the Association for the Study of Ancient Greek Technology.
On display will be reproductions of ancient Greek ships, metalcraft machinery, automation models and measuring instruments. Endit
