Slovakia to create state energy holding

Xinhua, February 22, 2017 Adjust font size:

The ruling coalition in Slovakia will create an state energy holding to strengthen its position in the energy sector, Prime Minister Robert Fico announced after a meeting with leaders of the ruling coalition on Tuesday.

"The energy holding should make it possible for us to centralize companies and create scope for better supervision and strengthening the state's position," stressed Fico, welcoming the "complete agreement" between the coalition parties on systemic changes in energy.

According to the chairman of the parliament and coalition Slovak National Party, Andrej Danko, the private investors in the energy sector have already seen their investments returned, and now they're "hungrily taking" money from people's wallets in order to post the profits they desire.

The new energy holding should include a majority stake in the gas utility SPP, oil transmission operator Transpetrol, and three regional energy distributors, as well as a minority stake in the national electricity utility Slovenske Elektrarne.

The leader of coalition party Most-Hid, Bela Bugar, pointed out that the relevant legislation should be presented to Parliament as early as its March session. Endit
