Albanian police seize 106 mln USD of suspicious money in three years: PM

Xinhua, February 22, 2017 Adjust font size:

Albania's state police have seized 100 million euros (106 million U.S. dollars) in money or assets from criminal activities in the past three years, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said Tuesday at a press conference.

The head of government noted that the seized illegal money or assets had helped contribute to the state budget, and highlighted that the police would continue to fight money laundering.

Data published by Albania's General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering showed that in 2016 alone, the authorities here blocked around 29 million euros that were suspected of having come from criminal activities.

Meanwhile, in 2015, there were 47 administrative orders which resulted in the freezing of around 16 million euros. (1 euro = 1.06 U.S. dollars) Endit
